About This Site
Barber Sped Hub is an internal clinical reference and productivity tool developed for use by educational diagnosticians. It is not a commercial product, not affiliated with any test publisher, and not an official TEA or district platform.
The hub is hosted via Netlify (a U.S.-based web hosting provider) and uses the Anthropic Claude API for AI-assisted narrative generation in the Report Writer tool. No other third-party services receive user data.
What Is — and Is Not — Sent to the AI
The AI Report Writer constructs narrative text based only on the data types listed below. All transmission occurs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
| Data Type | Sent to AI? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Numerical assessment scores (standard scores, scaled scores, T-scores, percentiles) | Yes | Numbers only — no student name or identifier is attached |
| Eligibility area selections (e.g., SLD, OHI, ID) | Yes | Category label only |
| Evaluation type (Initial / Reevaluation) | Yes | Single word flag |
| Optional informal narrative context (observation/teacher/parent text fields) | Yes, if entered | Do not include student name, DOB, or other PII in these fields. Enter only educational observations and summary language. |
| Uploaded REED documents (PDF or Word) | Never sent | REED documents are processed entirely in your browser using client-side extraction. The file is never transmitted to Netlify or Anthropic. Only any text you choose to keep in the REED summary field is sent as part of narrative generation. |
| Student name | Never | Not collected by any field on this site |
| Student ID number | Never | Not collected by any field on this site |
| Date of birth or age | Never | Not collected by any field on this site |
| School or district name | Never | Not collected by any field on this site |
| Parent or guardian information | Never | Not collected by any field on this site |
| Diagnostic labels or eligibility determinations | Never | The hub supports evaluation; it does not record or store eligibility decisions |
Data Storage & Retention
This site does not store any data you enter. All score fields, text boxes, and form inputs exist only in your browser session. When you close or refresh the page, all entered data is cleared.
No database, login system, or user account is associated with this hub. Nothing you enter is saved to a server, exported to a spreadsheet, or retained after your session ends.
The feedback/contact form (on the main hub page) transmits only the message text and an optional return email address you choose to provide. This information is used solely to respond to your question or suggestion and is not shared with third parties.
FERPA Considerations
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g) protects the privacy of student education records. Because this hub is designed to transmit no student-identifying information to any external service, its use is consistent with FERPA data minimization principles.
REED documents uploaded to the Report Writer are processed entirely within your browser and never transmitted to any third party. This means uploaded REED content does not constitute a disclosure of an education record under FERPA — the document does not leave your device.
However, users remain responsible for:
- Not entering student names, IDs, or other PII into any text field on this site
- Using this tool in accordance with their district's data governance and technology use policies
- Ensuring that generated narrative text is reviewed and finalized within secure, district-approved systems before inclusion in official records
This site does not constitute an agreement or guarantee of FERPA compliance on behalf of any school district. Districts should evaluate tool use within their own policy frameworks.
Anthropic API & Third-Party AI
AI narrative generation is powered by the Anthropic Claude API. Score data sent to the API is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy and API usage terms.
Anthropic's API terms for business customers state that data submitted via the API is not used to train their models. Users should review Anthropic's current terms independently, as policies may be updated by Anthropic.
Questions or Concerns
If you have questions about data practices on this hub, use the feedback form on the main page to send a message. For questions about your district's data governance policies, contact your district's data privacy officer or technology department.
